At this point based on the upcoming episode spoilers it has to just be in the writer’s room…
“Yanno what? Those fanfiction writers are doing a much better job at characterizing Blaine than we are.”
“Yep. We shouldn’t include any character development for fear of jossing their fanons.”
“In fact, let’s just give them songs we know delight their blangsty sensibilities, but have absolutely no context so they can make up the context. That way it’ll be richer and more fulfilling.”
“We’re so awesome to them. Hey, so I have new idea to make Kurt cry again.”

And for the record… I’ve listened to Cough Syrup a billion times and haven’t slept for a week so I really don’t particularly care anymore. I’ll return to your regularly scheduled Playlist after thursday.
Long story short. Glee fanfiction writers are better than the actual writers, and we really shouldn’t be surprised by this anymore. Disappointed, but not surprised.
